MP government claims to have planted 11 lakh trees in a single day, potentially setting a world record

The Madhya Pradesh government achieved a new Guinness World Record by planting over 1.1 million saplings in a single day in Indore district. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav received the certificate from the Guinness Book of Records team at the event. He emphasized that Indore, known as India’s cleanest city and the economic capital of Madhya Pradesh, now holds this prestigious world record.

“Indore is now number 1 in the world. My brothers and sisters of Indore, I congratulate you all for making history in tree planting, following our success in cleanliness,” Yadav announced in a post on his official page.

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and planted a sapling in Indore.

Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5 to commemorate World Environment Day. As part of this initiative, approximately 1.4 billion trees will be planted across the country, including 55 million in Madhya Pradesh, which Shah described as the ‘lungs of Bharat.’ṣ

Under the nationwide campaign, 140 crore trees will be planted across the country, including 5.5 crore in Madhya Pradesh, out of which 51 lakh will be in Indore, which is MP’s most populated city.

Indore India’s cleanest city

Indore, known for being India’s cleanest city in multiple Swachh Survekshan surveys, will witness the planting of 5.1 million saplings during this campaign, officials confirmed.

The plantation effort took place at the BSF Academy’s Revati Range, which was organized into nine main zones and 100 sub-zones.

Officials reported the participation of 2,000 BSF jawans, over 100 NRIs, NCC cadets from 50 schools, numerous citizens, and members from various social organizations in this extensive planting initiative.

Previous record for the most saplings planted in 24 hours

According to the Guinness World Record website, the previous record for the most saplings planted in 24 hours was 921,730. This record was set by the Forest Department of Assam (India) in Udalguri on September 13 and 14, 2023.
